NSE Celebrates Mr. Akintola Williams at 95

Mr. Akintola WilliamsThe Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) organized a symbolic Closing Gong ceremony in celebration of the 95th birthday of one of its founding fathers, Mr. Akintola Williams, CFR, CBE, FCA.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Oscar Onyema, CEO, NSE, said “I am honoured today to celebrate Mr. Williams, the only surviving signatory to the original Memorandum and Articles of Association of The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) at the founding of the NSE in September 15, 1960.  As the pioneer of the accountancy profession in Nigeria, Mr. Williams deserves our highest acclaim".

Onyema applauded Mr. Williams for his outstanding leadership role in the incorporation of the Lagos Stock Exchange in Nigeria. "The NSE is highly privileged to have had its foundations laid by a distinguished Nigerian like you and we recognize today, the tremendous services you rendered towards the growth and development of The Exchange" he added.

In his response, Mr. Akintola Williams said “I take note that this event is in continuation of my 95th birthday anniversary which I celebrated on Saturday, 9th August 2014.  Let me express to you and your Council how pleased I was to have received the Council’s kind invitation.  It is my prayers that all of us present here this afternoon will reach and go beyond that age of 95 and in good and sound health”.
